Relevance Overview

This module addresses student motivation.  It helps us to answer the question "Why am I learning this?"  Relevancy is an engine for learning and moves students from declarative, or factual, knowledge through procedural and conditional so they can move from knowing the what to the how and when.

Taking the time to communicate relevance is very important in lessons so students will not only be successful in your classes, but will be able to apply the knowledge they learn in the real world.  When we are so familiar with our own subjects, relevance can sometimes be assumed or get skipped, but letting students know the why, how it relates to their lives and what they are learning in other classes, can be extremely helpful for not only motivation, but for overall achievement.

Know Your Why

Check out the video on the left for some inspiration on the importance of knowing our why.  This is important as educators, but also important to remember for our students as well so we can help support meaningful relevance in our learning experiences.
